Walter Panas' , who will be playing volleyball at the University of Virginia next year, was named the Journal News Westchester/Putnam Volleyball Player of the Year.
Also being recognized were Stephanie Gmeiner and Panas' Lauren Perri.

Panthers win at John Jay
Zac Preuss tallied 23 points and Vaughn Dweck registered 22 points in leading Walter Panas to a 74-62 triumph at John Jay in boys basketball on Dec. 6.

COED VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT AT COUNTY CENTER

Registration is now open for the Westchester County Coed Volleyball Tournament, to be held Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 18 and 19, 2012, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. each night, at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.
The tournament is open to men and women, 18 years of age and older, who are members of organized teams, such as corporations, clubs, recreation centers or local “Ys.”
The tournament will be played in Round Robin format on Wednesday to determine the ranking of each team, with a double-elimination tournament for the championship round on Thursday. The tournament will be played in two levels of competition: recreation and power recreation. Awards will be given to the winning teams and runners-up in each division.
Fee is $195 per team, with a limit of 20 teams. Deadline for registration is Jan. 11. The Coed Volleyball Tournament is sponsored by Westchester County Parks. The Westchester County Center is located at 198 Central Avenue in White Plains. Parking is $5.
