Ex-Horace Greeley Coach Tribou Joins PHS Football Team

Former Coach Bill Tribou has confirmed that he was hired to become an assistant coach at

Tribou was appointed by the Peekskill school board earlier this month - his appointment was on the agenda for its Aug. 21 meeting. That meeting was scheduled just one day after the Chappaqua school board scheduled a meeting to  The resignation for his gym teaching job, according to a statement released by the Chappaqua district, is effective Aug. 31 and he will be paid one year's worth of salary.

Tribou, who was a gym teacher at Greeley and its coach for roughly two decades, resigned after Neither he nor Chappaqua district officials can publicly discuss why he was suspended. His sudden removal , including football players, parents and Greeley alumni. 

Asked why he chose to come back to football shortly after leaving Greeley, Tribou explained that it's part of his lifestyle.

"Well, I'm never going to give that up, ever," he said.

Tribou said that he considered joining Peekskill before the settlement with Chappaqua was approved. That settlement focused on his gym teaching position, as opposed to his part-time, seasonal football coaching job. Tim Sullivan, his longtime assistant, took over as coach when the Chappaqua school board appointed him in August, and Tribou did not want to go a season without coaching in football.

"I had a gut feeling that it was going to end up this way," Tribou said of the outcome.

Asked why he chose to resign, Tribou said it was in the best interest of he and his family. He declined to discuss the settlement further.

Tribou chose Peekskill, he explained, because he felt the team could use his support. Regarding any possible future match ups with Greeley, he felt that would be unlikely given their schedules. Tribou has not decided on whether his stint at Peekskill will go beyond this season.
