The first lady has issued an appeal to get Americans moving and eating healthy.  And there’s an easy way to do that this coming Saturday, April 28th at Hendrick Hudson High School.

Rather than just hold a running race that might only appeal to a portion of our residents, the Hendrick Hudson Community Educational Foundation has decided to reach out and promote a healthier lifestyle for all - by hosting our first ever Healthy on the Hudson day, featuring a 5K race/walk, tennis tournament and health expo.

With its beautiful Hudson River views, the 5k Race starts at 9 am. In addition to age group awards, participants are all eligible to win gift certificates from Dick’s Sporting Goods. From 10 am to 2 pm, The Health Expo features 20 fitness classes for adults and kids, plus a kids fun run, sports clinics for kids led by Hen Hud athletes and coaches, not to mention delicious and healthy food & demonstrations and exhibitors promoting a healthy lifestyle.  Admission to the expo only is $10 for adults/$5 for children/students.  Children 5 and under are FREE!

The idea behind Healthy on the Hudson is to offer the community the opportunity to participate in activities that not only are healthy and educational, but also benefit education in our community by raising funds to be granted to all five schools in our district as well as to community organizations such as the Hendrick Hudson Free Library.

By showcasing the health and wellness resources residing here in our community at our health expo, we hope to show you ways in which you can improve your fitness, nutrition, and overall health.

Registration for the run/wal is $20 for students/$30 and includes admission to the expo.

In addition to encouraging participation in the race and expo. volunteers are needed  to man the race course. To volunteer, please email Jeanine MacFadyen at j.macfadyen@wafra.com
