The Downstate 14-1 volleyball team has qualified to play in this year's national tournament which will be held in Columbus, Ohio from June 30 through July 7.

After a four-month season which included 56 teams in the 14-year old division, the top 12 ranked teams competed in the regional finals on April 28 at the Downstate Volleyball Center in Peekskill.
The top two teams left in the tournament would receive a bid to play in this year's national tournament. There were three pools of four teams each playing a round-robin format with the top two teams from each pool moving on to a double elimination playoff round.
After pool play, both Downstate teams (14-1 and 14-2), had made it to the playoff round. The Downstate 14-1 team came out first in its pool and the 14-2 team came out second in its pool.
The hopes of both teams making it to nationals was dashed when both teams lost a second round game that put them head to head in an elimination match.
The best 2 out of 3 match started with an exciting game with the teams changing leads several times.
It took overtime to decide game one as the 14-1 team won 27-25. Game two saw the 14-1 team take an early lead which it never relinquished and won the game and the match 25-18.
The win assured the 14-1 team a bid to the nationals.
It went on to win its next match against CJVA of New Jersey to capture the first (National) bid and CJVA got the second (American) bid.
All-Tournament
Lindsay Pelaccio and Melissa Tringali were named to the All Tournament team from the 14-1 team and Kelsea Gillen was named to the All Tournament team from the 14-2 team.
The Downstate teams will participate in one more tournament at Penn State at the end of May and the 14-1 team will practice three times a week to get ready for nationals that will have 48 teams from the entire U.S. participating.
Boys Lacrosse
Lakeland/Panas beat visiting Bronxville 8-3 on April 26 according to Isaac Cass' story on MSG Varsity.
Brian Prunty and Chris Monteferante led the Rebels with two goals and one assist each.
