Peekskill falls to Kennedy

It had plenty of hype but unfortunately, like Alabama-LSU, it couldn't live up to it.

entered its boys basketball game against visiting Kennedy Catholic Jan. 10 looking to get a heads up in league play but it was Kennedy that wound up doing all the damage, rolling to a 77-59 triumph.

Leading Peekskill was Kyree Hull, who scored a team-high 14 points.

The most impressive thing about Peekskill against the Gaels was its die-hard fan base, which was boisterous throughout despite the Kennedy domination and stayed until the end of the game even though it was clear from the tip-off that they were going to go home disappointed.

Peekskill recreation hoops

The Peekskill Recreation Youth Basketball Leagues kicked off the season on Saturday, January 7 with the Boys Pee Division and the Girls Division playing their games at Woodside School.

The first game of the day matched the Eagles against the Hawks in the Boys division with the Eagles edging the Hawks by the score of 16-14. Tyrell Bradshaw’s last minute bucket iced the victory for the Eagles. Jameek Allen Dabbs led his team with 6 points while Dejawn White was high scorer for the Hawks with 6.

The second game came down to an overtime foul shooting contest with Myles Walker winning it for the Cardinals. Walker shot the final foul shot and made it to go along with 5 points. The final score was 10 to 9 as the Cardinals downed the Hornets. Jaelyn Norman Thomas led the Hornets with 4 points.

The Girl’s Division saw the Gumdrops down the Fireballs by the score of 31-12. Sandra Murphy led a balanced attack with 14 points while Akua Yeboah chipped in with 8. Jodi Glickert took team honors for the Fireballs with 7 points.

The second game had the Skittles defeating the Kit Kats by the score of 15-7 as Francesca Snipes tallied all of her team’s points to lead the way. Alissa Thompson score 5 points paving the way for the Kit Kats.

The league plays every Saturday at Woodside School. The Pee Wee Boys Division is made up of boys in the third and fourth grades while the Girl’s Teams are third grade to the sixth.

 

Knights of Columbus Foul Shooting Contest

The Peekskill Recreation Department and the Knight of Columbus of Peekskill is sponsoring a Foul Shooting contest on Tuesday, January 24 at Woodside School at 6 pm. The contest is for boys and girls ages 10-14 as of January 1, 2012.
