As I teach my students every week I try to encourage growth by having students do nothing. That's right you heard me NOTHING! One of the most beautiful things about a regular Yoga practice is that it becomes about feeling the ease in the postures not the effort and in so many other forms of "excercise" most try so hard to go for the proverbial burn. That has its place and time but Yoga is about utter and beautiful surrender and at the end of a long day after all of the lists and errands to run I think that the relief of falling into a Yoga practice helps most people to remember what's important and that it is not actually about finding perfection in the postures but really about how well you can be in the moment of the posture. Every day will be different and accepting that difference is what matters.
I try to give students tools to help them anywhere, the office, at home or even on the grocery line! Just knowing that you can find ease in almost every moment is worth more than anything else in life. To surrender yourself for what is a fraction of your day in the midst of a well trained Yoga Instructor can help you to alleviate a lot of the perceived stress we experience in life and help most to realize that the problem that was bugging them a short time ago can be let go of once they acheive some balance and perspective. Through breathwork, postures and savasana ( relaxation) life can become more tolerable and isn't that what we are all after in the end?
Namaste...
