The Peekskill school district expects to open new bids for bus service July 18, the Board of Education learned during its meeting Tuesday, July 3.
Gregory Sullivan, assistant superintendent for business, told the board he hoped to be able to recommend a contractor as early as the following week.
The board had been poised to award a three-year contract during its June 19 business meeting but rejected all bids after district officials cited “concerns” and “legal reasons.” Instead, during a special meeting June 27, the board approved a summer extension of the existing contract with Mile Square Transportation while it sought new bids for bus transportation beginning in September.
The board’s next regularly scheduled meeting is Aug. 21. It is expected that a special meeting would be called earlier to approve a bus contract.
