Open House on Walt Whitman

The VanCortandtville Historical Society will host an open house on the topic of Walt Whitman free to the public on Sunday, May 6th, from 2 to 4 .m. at The Little Red Schoolhouse, 297 Locust Avenue, Cortlandt Manor.

Ted Winser, a tour guide at Bear Mountain State Park and Constitution Island, will be costumed as Walt Whitman as he talks about the 19th-century poet's life in the Hudson Valley.  A prominent statue of Whitman stands along the main walkway at the Bear Mountain Trailside Museum and Zoo.

The Little Red Schoolhouse is located at the north end of Locust Avenue next to Old Saint Peter's Church and cemetery, just south of Oregon Road in the Town of Cortlandt.
