Walt Whitman Open House

The Van Cortlandtville Historical Society will conclude this year's series of monthly open houses, free to the public, on Sunday, Nov. 6th, from 2 to 4 p.m., at The Little Red Schoolhouse, 297Locust Ave., Cortlandt Manor.

Ted Winser, a tour guide at Constitution Island and Bear Mountain State Park, who is a Walt Whitman look-a-like will present an on-going discussion on the various aspects of the life of the noted American poet and naturalist. Whitman, who lived from 1819 to 1892, wrote "Leaves of Grass."  A prominent statue of him stands along the main trail at the Bear Mountain Trailside Museum and Zoo.

The Little Red Schoolhouse is located at the north end of Locust Avenue, next to Old Saint Peter's Church and cemetery just south of Oregon Road in Cortlandt anor.
