Thanks to the Hendrick Hudson School District for sending this information: The Hendrick Hudson School District Board of Education unanimously appointed Croton Veterinarian Dr. Carol Popolow-Abraham to the Board of Education. Popolow-Abraham will fulfill the unexpired term of William Oricchio, who resigned his seat effective June 30, 2012. Dr. Abraham’s term began on July 11, 2012 and will run through the next school district election to be held on May 21, 2013.
Popolow-Abraham has been a resident of the Hen Hud community since moving here in 1997.
First as a local businesswoman then as a parent, Popolow-Abraham has sought out opportunities to contribute both to the school and community.
“I have been attending board meetings on a regular basis for several years. Initially, I wanted to better understand how the school worked and how decisions in the district were made. I found that I really liked attending the meetings,” remarked Popolow-Abraham.
“We were fortunate to have several highly qualified candidates apply to fill the vacancy left by Bill’s resignation,” said Board of Education President Mary-Pat Briggi. “It was a difficult decision because each individual had his or her own unique strengths,” continued Briggi.
Upon being notified of her appointment, Abraham remarked, “I am looking forward to tackling some of the tough issues facing our district. I am not a person who is content to criticize; I want to be part of the solution. I suppose that is one of the reasons I decided on medicine for my career. I also love to learn new things in depth. I am actually looking forward to going through
the training necessary to be a valuable contributor to the Board of Education and the Hen Hud community at large.”
“I would like to congratulate Carol on her appointment to the Board of Education. I look forward to working with her. Having met her, I can see that she will make many valuable contributions to our school community,” said Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian Monahan.
Popolow-Abraham resides in Croton with her husband, David, and their two children, Allison and William, who attend Frank G. Lindsey Elementary School.
Abraham will be formally sworn in at the next regular meeting of the Board of Education on July 25, 2012.
