Veterans Memorial Bath House Renovations for 2012

The plans for the pool bath house are almost complete and the project is expected to be complete in time for the 2012 summer swimming season.

The city-hired consultant firm Ward Associates presented the final rendering for the Veterans Memorial pool bath house renovations at the June 6 Committee of the Whole meeting.

The renovations will cost $300,000, with $250,000 in capitol improvement funds and $50,000 in GAP funds earmarked for the project. The project is expected to be completed for the summer 2012 swimming season.

The renovation will bring the bathhouse up to compliance with recent code updates by providing new fixtures, wall tiles, windows, security doors, an updated electrical panel and other items. It will also include improvements to the building entryway and to the inside of the men’s and women’s bathhouses.

Specific renovations will include:

-Entrance side will have double entries with large windows

-Glass block windows added on entrance and pool sides

-Walls will be cleaner up and a stucco/cement finish will be applied

-Fixtures will be replaced

-New tiling in toilet areas

-Easy to clean and maintain surfaces installed

-Upgrading the electrical panel

The council discussed replacing the metal front doors with something more aesthetically appealing, such as glass doors.

Yes - the blue prints show they are going to remove the existing shower unit and install roll-in shower unit with partitions....the old one sounds pretty scary!

They should use some of that money to improve the snack stand selection and put a heater in the pool. And maybe to buy Francix X a pair of long pants.

The snack bar is run by a separate entitity I believe. You could request a larger variety I am sure. I enjoy cooling off in an outdoor pool - once I get used to it! As for Francis's pants - I think that is his responsibility, but the city could offer a recommendation :)

Yes, Hypo will request a larger variety of snacks and more of them. By the end of the season, you usually only have the option of a fig newton or a pack of Necco wafers. Slim pickings, indeed. It's true that on a hot day, Hypo enjoys the pool but it usually takes him twenty minutes to get in. It also seems to get colder throughout the season, which is a little odd. Your advice on Francis's pants is well-received. It is most assuredly Francis's responsibility to be fully-clothed. Hypo will bring this matter up at the next Common Council meeting. Hopefully, they will pass a resolution to this effect.

But fig newtons are yummy! Good luck with the Pants resolution!
