Town of Cortlandt Expected to Settle Claim for $50K

Cortlandt officials are expected to settle a claim, which stems from an accident involving a town vehicle, for $50,000.

The Sept. 13, 2011 accident, between a motorist and a sanitation vehicle, occurred at the intersection of Hudson Avenue and Washington Street in Peekskill. One person sustained injuries.

"After negotiations, the town's defense attorneys, Hodges Walsh and Slater of White Plains, New York, have recommended that the matter be settled for $50,000," reads a resolution on the agenda for Tuesday's (July 16) town board meeting. "...It has been determined that the town has liability for the accident."

The item is titled "Authorize a stipulation of discontinuance with respect to Seitz vs. the Town of Cortlandt."

The town board has previously obtained liability insurance and has self-insured the town for the first $50,000 of any claim filed against it, according to the resolution.
