Peekskill: Cooling Center Open Until 9 Tonight

Peekskill's cooling center will be open until 9 p.m. Saturday.

Located in the Neighborhood Center at 4 Nelson Avenue, the cooling center has been open all week.

"At 2:15 p.m. this [Friday] afternoon, the Weather Channel reported temperatures of 103-F degrees in Peekskill with a "Real Feel" temperature of 116," officials said in a statement. "Forecasted thunderstorms Saturday afternoon are expected to usher in cooler temperatures Saturday night and Sunday."

Mayor Mary Foster said the city did not anticipate needing to open the cooling center Sunday, as "more seasonable temperatures" are on the way.

"But, if the temperature creeps up, it will be reopened right away," Foster said Friday. "...I want to encourage everyone to cool off by visiting the public pool or one of our spray parks, or to catch a show tonight at the Paramount Theater. You can also visit one of our many air conditioned businesses and restaurants throughout the city."
