Buchanan, N.Y. – Control room operators returned Indian Point’s unit 2 nuclear power plant to service at 9:54 a.m. this morning, after repairs were made to a system that controls the flow of water through the unit’s two main boiler feed pumps. Boiler feed pumps are located on the non-nuclear side of the plant and feed water into the plant’s steam generator so it can be heated and turned into steam to make electricity.
Buchanan, N.Y. – Control room operators returned Indian Point’s unit 2 nuclear power plant to service at 9:54 a.m. this morning, after repairs were made to a system that controls the flow of water through the unit’s two main boiler feed pumps. Boiler feed pumps are located on the non-nuclear side of the plant and feed water into the plant’s steam generator so it can be heated and turned into steam to make electricity.
There was no release of radioactivity and no threat to the safety of workers or the public. All equipment performed as designed in response to the shutdown.
Unit 2 had been online for 138 continuous days prior to today’s shut down.
Unit 3 is currently operating at full power and has been online for 96 continuous days since completing its 17th refueling outage in April.

Indian Point Energy Center, in Buchanan, N.Y., is home to two operating nuclear power plants, unit 2 and unit 3, which generate approximately 2000 megawatts of electricity for homes, business and public facilities in New York City and Westchester County.
