Youth and Peekskill Police Face Challenges Together

Peekskill's Youth Academy cadets will spend the day at the Madden Outdoor Education Center.

Thanks to BOCES for sending this information: Such has been written about the bond shared by police officers. The most effective teams communicate well and anticipate one another’s needs, enabling them to solve crimes and remain safe while protecting the public. To begin building that rapport, cadets in the Peekskill Youth Police Academy will spend the day at the Madden Outdoor Education Center Tuesday solving challenges together.

The cadets, youths age 12 to 15, along with police officers will tackle a series of physical challenges such as climbing an 8-foot wall, getting over a wooden wheel suspended between two trees or balancing a group of people on a 4 by 8 seesaw. The course is offered by the Center for Environmental Education at Putnam Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services.

The challenge course helps the cadets bond as a group and learn to solve problems through communication, collaboration and cooperation. The Peekskill Police Youth Academy, now in its 10th year, is made possible through funding from Entergy, Wheelabrator of Westchester, and Dominoes Pizza of Cortlandt Manor and Piazza Roma Restaurant of Mohegan Lake.
