Woman's Body Found Floating in Hudson River Tuesday

Putnam County Sheriff Donald Smith reported the body of a woman was found floating in the Hudson River on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 by a passing boater.

The boater called 911 when the boater spotted the body floating in the river at about 10:00 a.m. The West Point Fire Department, patrol boats from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Rockland County Sheriff’s Office recovered the woman's body in the water by Garrison on the eastern shore and Highland Falls on the western bank, according to the Sheriff's report.

The body was transported to the Garrison Yacht Club where the coroner pronounced the woman's death officially. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. The District Attorney’s Office has been notified.

Police described the woman as dark skinned, possibly Hispanic, in her late 30s or early 40s. She had black hair tied in a ponytail and was wearing a black blouse, Aero jeans, and black ankle-high boots.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the Sheriff’s office at (845) 225-8060. All calls will be kept confidential.
