Troopers Seek Witnesses in Fatal Bear Mountain Parkway Crash

A crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV on the Bear Mountain Parkway led to the death of a 43-year-old Wappingers Falls man Sunday. Police are looking to speak with anyone who witnessed the accident.

State troopers from the Cortlandt barracks responded to the scene at about 12:25 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived they found the motorcycle’s operator, later identified as Christopher J. Ulacco, lying unconscious in the roadway.

"Life-saving measures were immediately initiated prior to the operator being transported to the Hudson Valley Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead," authorities said in a statement Monday. "...Witness accounts of the accident reported that two motorcyclists were traveling at a high rate of speed when Ulacco failed to keep right, crossing the double yellow pavement markings and struck a 2011 GMC sport utility vehicle head on."

A 2012 Honda Civic then hit the GMC in the rear, according to officials. Both drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The operator of the second motorcycle reportedly fled the scene before police arrived.

"The State Police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed this accident or who may have information on the other motorcycle operator to call the 914-737-7171 and ask for Investigator Miller," authorities said.
