Troopers Make Arrest in Cortlandt Bank Robbery

State Police have arrested a 51-year-old Mohegan Lake man in connection with Wednesday's bank robbery in the Cortlandt Town Center.

Desmond O. Mighty is facing a felony charge of third-degree robbery. State troopers made the arrest after what they said was an "intensive investigation" into the crime. It took place at the JP Morgan Chase Bank branch in the A&P at the Cortlandt Town Center.

"Investigation led to the identification of Mighty as a potential suspect, and following extensive surveillance and interviews, Mighty was arrested and charged..." officials said Saturday in a statement. If convicted, they added, Mighty could face up to seven years in prison.

After Wednesday's incident, authorities released surveillance photos of the man they were seeking. He reportedly entered the store alone, kept his hands in his pockets, "did not display a weapon but threatened one" and made off with a few thousand dollars.

Following arraignment in Cortlandt Justice Court, Mighty was sent to the Westchester County Jail. He'll be due back in court at a later date.

"Anyone with further information regarding Mighty's activities are asked to contact the State Police at 914-737-7171," officials said. "All calls will be kept confidential."

Members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Peekskill Police Department and the United States Postal Inspectors Office assisted in the probe.
