Troopers: Cortlandt Manor Man with Prior Conviction Drove Drunk

A 33-year-old Cortlandt Manor man—who was previously convicted of drunken driving—was intoxicated behind the wheel when state troopers from the Cortlandt barracks stopped him, according to officials.

Police arrested Marcio R. Azevedo Araujo at about 9:10 p.m. Thursday on Welcher Avenue in Peekskill. They initially stopped him for failing to signal.

Authorities say the defendant's blood-alcohol level was 0.12 percent. The legal limit is 0.08 percent. He's facing a felony charge of driving while intoxicated. Police also charged him with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, after they discovered a metal smoking pipe containing burnt marijuana residue.

Police released Azevedo Araujo after the arrest. He is due Oct. 28 in Peekskill City Court.
