Peekskill Seniors Meet with Emergency Management Team

Members of Peekskill's Office of Emergency Management met with senior citizens earlier this week and helped them prepare for everything from a natural disaster to radiation exposure.

Police Chief Eric Johansen oversaw Monday's activities at 901 South Street. The team handed out potassium iodine (KI) pills, which is meant to protect against the effects of radiation exposure to the thyroid.

Seniors also received "Emergency Preparedness" brochures created by the Peekskill Middle School Environmental Club and Wheelabrator Technologies, Inc. The pamphlet provides tips on preparing for natural disasters and storms, as well as staying safe during those events.
