Thief Lifts Engagement Ring, Beauty Supplies from Car

Auto larcenies continue in Pelham Manor

A Pelham Manor woman insisted both of the cars at her Francis St. residence were locked, but thieves still managed to enter them without leaving a scratch.

The woman told police that thieves made off with an engagement ring worth $5,000 as well as beauty supplies and equipment worth $1,000, college textbooks worth $1,000, designer sunglasses and watches worth $1,300 and an iPod touch worth $300 last Friday from both cars.

In Pelham Manor, theft from an unlocked car is a very common crime (every week, it seems). That's probably why it was noted that these cars were said to be locked - because it would make it an unusual crime in this area. Police periodically plead with residents to lock their cars. It doesn't seem to be working yet.

Anything valuable should not be left in a car! ! You are asking to be robbed if you don't use some common sense today.

Sounds like insurance fraud

Well I just read this article for the first time and am sorry to report that it was my house, my driveway, my two daughter's cars. First of all shame on you Renea Henry for implying that we are lieing (thank you Jennifer for posting your response), and as a result possibly giving Pelham residents a false sense of security in thinking this did not occur. There was no engagement ring, I have no idea where Renea got that because noone reported an engagement ring. However there was a ring in the ashtray, along with many other items between the two cars. Yes unfortunately my 20 somethings do leave valuables in their car and hopefully will not anymore. We did not report this claim to insurance as our deductible is high, and I cannot believe that I feel the need to say that! I am appalled.

Your two twenty year olds act more like two year olds. (No common sense). Come on now. Being twenty something is no excuse for being darn lazy or??????
