Student, 13, Charged with Injuring Peekskill Police Officer

A Peekskill police officer injured her shoulder while trying to stop a 13-year-old Peekskill Middle School student from fighting another student at the middle school Thursday.

A 13-year-old Peekskill Middle School student faces a second-degree assault charge after he allegedly injured a police officer who was breaking up a fight Thursday.

Police said the student was trying to fight another student inside the school when Officer Pam Sgroi attempted to restrain him. During the fracas, the student allegedly threw Sgroi up against a wall and caused her to injure her shoulder.

Sgroi was removed from duty after she was treated at Hudson valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt Manor for her injury.

The student was given an appearance ticket to appear in Westchester County Family Court.

I don't like female police, soldiers, firewomen etc. I saw a lot of Peekskill's female police at the Italian festival and thought they looked silly in police uniforms. A bunch of these galls looked right out of high school and the cheerleading squad. I'm not surprised a 13 yr old wants to fight a Peekskill officerette. You could get away with such things in Bedford but not Peekskill.

Animals, no respect for anything, he should have been beaten to near death,
shawn bynum October 17, 2012 at 12:58 am
Not condoning the student's actions, he or she is still a child. Beaten to near death is certainly not the answer.
leesther brown October 17, 2012 at 02:51 am
I've not heard one parent or child in this community ever speak badly of Officer Pam in fact she is a welcome presence and a favorable impression on so many children leaning toward the wrong...I believe this young person was out of control and was unable to turn off that anger switch and Jenga "there for the grace of God goes one of yours"( if you even have any) it doesn't warrant the death penalty!!!
RK October 17, 2012 at 03:13 pm
What a lame and ignorant comment. For your information, the officer was stopping an out of control youth who was in a blind rage from attacking and injuring another youth - and the officer succeeded in her attempt. She was not thrown against a wall as stated in the article but stood there and stopped him cold. Male officers come away with the same type of injuries.

The death penalty should only be used for littering.

It just may be a female officer who save your life or whoop dat azz if u get into a rage. I pray your wife, significant other has extra patience to deal with your sexist demeanor because you obviously don't have respect for women.
Jill Gertz October 18, 2012 at 04:37 am
Would a NFL team be better with women on it? Would the Navy SEALs be better with women on it? Of course the answer is "no". When I need a cop or fireman I don't want a girl who got in because the standards were lowered and everyone is pretending the men and women are the same. The emperor has no clothes on this issue. Conversely I don't want men doing some jobs women are better suited for.

Jill,
I think you missed your stop in 1950. The problem here is with the creep that was in the fight and assaulted the officer not with the officer. Did you ever think that the reason she looked like a high school cheerleader is just because you're so damn old?
Lindsey Curry October 18, 2012 at 11:57 am
@Jill, you have to be the mst ignorant person i have ever seen comment on these articles! Regardless of sex, these men and women are protecting all of us, wheather it be firefighter, police or military! GET A LIFE!
FC October 18, 2012 at 12:37 pm
Listen 'Jill' don't upset Cole's Mom! You sound as if you have a husband or Father who tells you that you're inferior on a regular basis? So much so you believe it now, sad. With that said I'm a 6 foot 200 lb rock solid gorgeous man and I know females that are a foot shorter and 100lb's lighter that could whoop me. (I've wrastled with several of them ;) you my dear are a lost little girl without a clue about life & or the people who protect our communities and freedom. Do yourself a favor..... you clearly have the Internet so do 2 things 1) Don't ever comment on a public forum of any sort again because you clearly will just embarrass yourself and give a bad name to woman. 2) Do some research, on ANYTHING because there's obviously a lot you can learn about this world. Wait allow me to add a 3rd. 3) A female sexiest is NOT A GOOD LOOK, fall back.

jill it is perfectly fine for a female to be a police officer....some females may be able to do the police officer job better then men.. final thought is he should respect a police officer rather it be a female police officer or a male police officer you are a pathetic excuse for human..

You should be embarrsed of yoursself !!!!!
Jill Gertz October 21, 2012 at 03:02 am
Sounds like she would be better off being a nurse or a social worker. Sorry but if a 13 year old is throwing a cop up against the wall they need another line of work. This adolescent could have just as easily grabbed her gun and killed someone - even if by mistake.
elizabeth egan November 8, 2012 at 11:20 pm
You"don't like" females as police officers because of the uniform?? Wow the 1950's are over. That type of thinking is small minded and regressive It is not about the uniform but the person behind the uniform. I am proud of these fine women who are police officers.
elizabeth egan November 8, 2012 at 11:26 pm
Well said FC!! You said it perfectly, thanks.

@ASHLEY TARR my comments that i posted did not contain profanity nor did they harrass or abuseRead More anyone, they were just what the forum is for, to discuss issues within our city. but i know, some people would consider it harrasment or would try to have it deleted because the truth hurts, and that's what some of our elected officials don't want you to hear, (the truth)

By the way, in our new system we have an update that includes a community moderation tool—it'sRead More not only Patch editors who can flag comments. What is it? Readers can flag any content they find objectionable on any Patch site at any time. We’ve put the flagging link in more places to make it easier to find and backed it with more sophisticated tools. Our goal is to recognize and reward readers who make our community great. How does it work? You’ll see these words — Flag as Inappropriate — on the top and bottom of Board posts, articles, blogs and notes, and next to every single comment anywhere on the site. To flag something, you simply click those words. What happens when you flag? It alerts us that something might be up with the content. When should you flag? We ask that you use your common sense and a general spirit of openness. You should never flag things that you simply disagree with and certainly not to clarify minor points. We encourage you to comment, post (or even start your own blog) to be heard on those things. You can review the Patch Terms of Use Ashley referred to above.

Unleashed dogs is getting to be a big problem in Peekskill. I see them routinely now. People areRead More letting their pit bulls out, their poodles, their chihuahuas - all kinds of dogs. Two days a go I watched a lady jogging on the track with her loose dog. The dog wasn't even supposed to be on the track no less loose. Some kid or elderly lady is going to get bit. Loose dogs also end up in more fights with other dogs.

Sue a sad fact that these days of “political correctness” individuals who exhibit rudeRead More and ignorant behavior are empowered by the rest of us. I know of a similar situation where the individuals will yell four letter words in the public areas with young children there, call others the foulest things, and in this case, they are black and gay so the race/gay card is used constantly. Until people make it known they are not going to tolerate their behavior it will not stop. Have you notified the property owner, complex board, and police, or maybe the board of health?

It seems Patch moves editors every year. Liz was here when I signed up. Then she was shortly movedRead More to Rye and Rasheed took over. He must have been here about a year and then he left when the new format was introduced. Both times patch started cooking and then it got cut down just as new staff got their mojo going. A new editor with a new format seems like starting from scratch again. I know AOL/Patch needs to get some cash flow going quick (from what I've read) but I can't see what they are trying to do exactly by tipping the cart over and over
Wendy Kelly June 17, 2013 at 08:37 am

Working Families Party endorsed candidate Mary Foster
Robin Seggs June 14, 2013 at 10:44 am
Working Families Party almost always cross endorses with Democrats. Looks like the choice isRead More getting clearer: One team is Democrat, WFP and Independent and the Catalina Team is Republican, Right-to-life, Conservative. Anyway, I believe Catalina is campaigning as anti-gay rights, so I know how I will be voting.
