A 13-year-old Peekskill Middle School student faces a second-degree assault charge after he allegedly injured a police officer who was breaking up a fight Thursday.

Police said the student was trying to fight another student inside the school when Officer Pam Sgroi attempted to restrain him. During the fracas, the student allegedly threw Sgroi up against a wall and caused her to injure her shoulder.

Sgroi was removed from duty after she was treated at Hudson valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt Manor for her injury.

The student was given an appearance ticket to appear in Westchester County Family Court.
