The New York State Police are investigating a hand grenade found on a path behind field in Montrose on Tuesday around 4 p.m. The grenade was found by two local residents who had been walking on the path. The police confirmed the discovery and a State Police Bomb Disposal Unit responded and safely removed the item.
The hand grenade showed signs of rust and wear and appeared to be many years old.
The area where the discovery was made was checked by State Police personnel, including the use of a State Police Canine Dog trained in explosives detection. The area was cleared and the park was reopened to the public.
