The Red Cross of Westchester is helping one of the victims of the Christmas night fire in Verplanck.
The blaze at the multi-family home at 157 7th Street was battled by firefighters from the Verplanck, Montrose, Buchanan and Peekskill fire departments.
One of the residents, a woman who is staying with friends, met with Red Cross volunteers today, said spokeswoman Carolyn Sherwin on Dec. 27.
"We provided emergency financial assistance for food, clothing, storage—along with referrals for further long-term housing needs," she said. "Most crucially, one of our professional mental health volunteers did meet with her to provide that emotional assistance needed, especially during the holidays."
The fire on the second floor, reported at 9 p.m., was under control by 11 p.m., according to the report on emtbravo.com
