Putnam Sheriff Charges Peekskill Teen with Burglary

A 19-year-old Peekskill resident is facing a second-degree burglary charge, a felony, following a reported domestic violence incident at a Garrison residence, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

"On June 22, 2013, sheriff’s deputies and state troopers responded to a 9-1-1 call of a domestic dispute, possibly involving child abduction, at a Valley Lane residence," authorities said in a statement. "Upon arrival of the officers, they assessed the situation and determined that all family members were accounted for. Investigator James Babcock of the Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation also responded to the scene. Investigation revealed that Michael A. Murphy of 7 Stuhr Gardens went to his former acquaintance’s residence, engaged in a verbal argument and was asked to leave the dwelling and not return. Mr. Murphy reportedly left the home, but, a short time later reentered the house by climbing through a window. He and the complainant again engaged in an argument which reportedly became physically abusive and during which contents in the residence were damaged. At that time the child called 9-1-1 for help."

Officials charged Murphy with burglary in the second degree, a felony. He is also facing two counts of criminal mischief and a single count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Following arraignment before Nelsonville Village Justice Dennis Zenz, acting on behalf of the Philipstown Justice Court, Murphy was released without bail. He is due in court Wednesday.
