Police: Teens Stole Cash, Cellphone from Garrison School

Two 14-year-old students from the Saint Basil Academy in Garrison were charged as juvenile delinquents after they allegedly burglarized cash and a cellphone from the academy's administration building earlier this month.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s office charged two 14-year-old boys with juvenile delinquency after they allegedly stole $100 and a cellphone from the Saint Basil Academy in Garrison earlier this month.

On Dec. 18, deputies received a report from academy officials that someone had broken into the administrative building and stole cash and a cellphone. Upon further investigation, deputies said they identified two teenaged boys as suspects.

The boys reside at the academy, according to authorities. Saint Basil Academy is a Greek Orthodox Archdiocese home for children in need.  It provides its residents with food, shelter, medical and emotional services.

The teens were released to school officials and referred to the Putnam County Probation Department for further action.  If they were adults, both would have been charged with third-degree burglary, a class “D” felony.

Authorities did not release the names of the teens involved.
