Police: Teen Drowns at Hessian Lake in Bear Mountain State Park

A 16-year-old Brooklyn boy who was on a class trip at Hessian Lake in Bear Mountain State Park drowned Monday afternoon, police say.

Jean Fritz Pierre was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:53 p.m. He was at the park for the day with International High School, which is located in Brooklyn, according to authorities.

State Park Police and State Park Rangers responded to a report of a possible drowning at the lake, which is located in the Rockland County area of the park, at about 3 p.m. Monday. Thiells Fire Department arrived with a dive team and conducted a search, officials said in a press release.

The teen's body was found by the fire department's dive team at about 3:50 p.m.  

Members of the State Park Police and the Rockland County Medical Examiner's Office are investigating the cause of the incident.

Several other agencies assisted at the scene: Fort Montgomery Fire Department, Monroe Fire Department, the Rockland County Medical Examiner's Office, Rockland Paramedics, Stony Point Fire Department, Town of Highlands Ambulance.
