Police: 'Enraged' Man Responsible for Broken Window at Peekskill Business

A 35-year-old Peekskill man is facing a felony criminal mischief charge after he shoved someone into a window at a local business, causing it to break, officials said.

The incident occurred at about 10:35 p.m. Nov. 1 at Crown Fried Chicken on Main Street in Peekskill. Police responded there for a report of a fight.

"Upon arrival the officers found the owner of the establishment holding Joseaphus Lovett down on the ground," authorities said in a statement. "Mr. Lovett was in an agitated state and threatening to 'fight everyone.' The owner of the business reports that he was getting ready to close for the evening and he and another subject attempted to wake up Mr. Lovett, who was sleeping in the corner of the business. The owner reports that Mr. Lovett became enraged and shoved the person helping him into the front window of the store breaking it. Mr. Lovett then attempted to fight the owner."

Lovett is accused of attempting to fight police, too, but he was restrained and taken into custody, according to authorities.

Officials charged Lovett with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, because the damage exceeded $250. They also charged him with disorderly conduct, a violation. He was due in court today (Nov. 12).

Sgt. Angelo Antonucci, officers Nick Franco, Mike Lawrence and Ed Lemp were involved in the arrest.
