Police: Drunken Cortlandt Manor Man Nearly Runs Off-Duty Cop Off Road

A 21-year-old Cortlandt Manor man is facing a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated after he almost ran an off-duty Rye police officer off the road, Port Chester Police said this week.

The man is accused of driving on the wrong side of the road, towards the officer, before taking a hard right and striking a fence that enclosed a dumpster at Sunoco on Boston Post Road in Port Chester. The car and fence were damaged, according to authorities.

"The driver gave police a passport when they asked for a license and they discovered he had no license and smelled alcohol on his breath," Police Lt. James Ladeairous. "He was tested and found positive for a blood alcohol content above the legal limit."

Police charged the man with drunken driving and two infractions: unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and an unregistered vehicle.
