Police: Cortlandt Store Employee Steals Via Fraudulent Returns

A 28-year-old Peekskill woman allegedly stole from the Barnes and Noble in the Cortlandt Town Center by processing several "fraudulent returns" over two months, according to officials.

State troopers from the Cortlandt barracks arrested Danica Curran at about 3:50 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 3) after receiving a report from the store about one of the cashiers stealing.

Curran is accused of "taking un-purchased store items off of the shelves while she was working, processing fraudulent returns of the items and then converting the return money into Barnes and Noble Gift Cards, which she then kept for herself," officials said in a statement. The thefts added up to about $300.

Police charged Curran with falsifying business records in the first degree, a felony. She is due Friday in Cortlandt Justice Court.
