Members of the Peekskill Police Department, the Peekskill Fire Department and the city's Department of Public Works are at the scene of an oil spill on Welcher Avenue in Peekskill.
The incident occurred at about 2 p.m. Tuesday. Here's what police Chief Eric Johansen said about it:
"Welcher Avenue will be closed from Route 9 to South Street due to a construction vehicle that has leaked a substantial amount of hydraulic fluid. The City of Peekskill Police and Fire Departments are on scene; NYS DOT, NYS Police and the DEC have all been notified. The DEC will be overseeing the clean up."

By 3 p.m. state police and the New York State Department of Conservation had arrived, as did officials from Westchester County. Authorities expect the roadway to remain closed for several hours.
"A private contractor will be brought in at the expense of the owner of the involved vehicle," Johansen said in an update. "Investigation ongoing, unknown at this time if summonses will be issued."
