Peekskill Police: Drunken Driver Had Child in Car

A 31-year-old Sleepy Hollow man is accusing of getting behind the wheel with a 6-year-old in the car, and a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit.

Peekskill police officer Khalia Carter arrested Luis Criollo at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, according to officials.

"...While on routine patrol, Officer Carter observed a white Chevy van driving on the sidewalk, southbound on the 200 block of Nelson Avenue," police said in a statement, noting that another adult and a 6-year-old were in the vehicle at the time.

Carter initiated a traffic stop. A breath test showed Criollo's blood-alcohol limit to be 0.18-percent. The legal limit is 0.08.

Criollo also lacked a driver's license, and had a suspension for failing to answer a ticket in New Rochelle, according to authorities. He's facing a felony charge of aggravated driving while intoxicated and two misdemeanors: endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation.

Following arraignment, Criollo was remanded to the Westchester County Jail. He is due next week in city court.
