Peekskill Police Department Seeks Youth for Summer Academy

Is your teen or tween looking for a fun and rewarding camp this summer that will challenge them physically and mentally? The Peekskill Police Department is calling youth ages 12-16 to experience the realities of law enforcement life.

The program began in 2003 as a community outreach for young people. The Peekskill Police Department began the program to build a bridge to local youth with its Peekskill Youth Police Academy program.

Each summer, eighteen youths aged 12-16 will get a chance to experience what the life of a police officer is like. Over the course of ten days from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the young officers in training will get a chance to learn the realities of life as a police officer.

There are also extensive classroom sessions at the Peekskill Neighborhood Center. Participants must fill out a detailed application, get two references and have a good record at the time they enroll.

Applications can be obtained at the front desk of the police department, 2 Peekskill Ave., Peekskill, Ny, and must be returned by July 1st. Selection interviews will take place the first week of July and space is limited.
