Peekskill Police Catch Armed Robbery Suspect

An 18-year-old is accused of threatening victims at knifepoint.

The following was provided by the Peekskill police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Peeksill police arrested 18-year-old Peekskill resident Jamil Bristow in connection to two recent armed robberies on Washington Street and Requa Street.

Bristow was arrested following the attempted robbery of an individual on Washington Street on July 28 at 11:30 p.m. The intended victim fled after Bristow allegedly pulled a large knife on him and demanded money, police said. Bristow was observed entering a residence on Dyckman Street, which was surrounded by responding officers who were able to take him into custody without incident.

During the investigation of this robbery, evidence was recovered linking Bristow to another armed robbery that occurred in the same neighborhood several days earlier. During the previous robbery, Bristow stole a pocketbook at knifepoint from a woman as she walked on Requa Street. Bristow was charged with first degree robbery, first degree attempted robbery, felonies, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. He was held for arraignment in Peekskill City Court where bail was set in the amount of $2,000.00.

Remember the sign that said "Peekskill a friendly place"?

2K bail is a joke for 2 knife robberies. Bail for one charge of first degree robbery is often around 35-50k. Way to go Peekskill court.

Gentrification anyone?
Jill Gertz August 2, 2012 at 03:29 pm
Some Section 8 homes popped up on a corner of Dyckman and Requa and now the cops are there almost every week (never on random patrol though). A couple months ago an 18 year old living there beat up the mailman and sent him to the hospital. The litter and the fighting in the streets are constant..

First, some stupid kids who were not thinking went pool hoping at the Peekskill pool and one drowned and died.RIP Jared, only 15 years old. Then some friends were underage drinking at a local restaurant and tried to run from the cops but one drowned in a lake and died in Buchanan.RIP Santiago only 18 years old, PHS graduate. And now another PHS grad Jamil, is robbing people at knifepoint, and stealing for innocent people. He pulled a large knife on people in the communtiny, and stole a pocketbook from a woman. What does that say about Peekskill High school and the town itself. I as a citizen am scared to walk the streets of Peekskill. Teens in this town need to wake up and stop making stupid descions that ruin their future. Something needs to change in this town because this is ridiculous. For all you good kids with bright futures that have to live in this town, education is the key to sucess, don't let's these Peekskill fools and ratchetness stop you from achiveng your goals. You might think its cool to hang out with some of these kids contstantly getting in trouble but its not. What are they doing for you? Nothing. So worry about yourself and keep yourself on track.
joshua tanner August 2, 2012 at 06:51 pm
Interesting you mention the pool because I called police several times last summer about kids jumping over the pool fence. It was a regular occurance. The police knew it too because of the video cameras there. On one of my calls, the dispatcher made excuses for the kids citing the heat and the kids just wanting to "cool off". Peekskill seems to radiate that nobody is really in charge and wants to be bothered - the reverse of the "broken window" theory (small crimes unadressed lead to bigger ones) that reversed crime in NYC.. The flaccid authority in peekskill tempts kids to go off and do whatever they want (and I would include the stabbing a few weeks ago at the Dollar Store on Washington St and the beaten/robbed immigrant on Depew). Peekskill seems quite out of control and I warn people about walking around at night these days..

It has nothing to do with Secetion 8 all the time . I was robbed from a " very person that had a Job" Thieves come in all shapes and sizes .... doesnt matter what their income status is . And my robbery only had a 5000.00 bail . took money and jewerly . Yes the courts to suck when it comes to bail . my thinking is she steal your Hands shoulds be chopped off !!!!
Beach Girl August 2, 2012 at 08:25 pm
Sorry Jill has nothing to do with Sect 8 . I happen to know some people on Sect 8 that have job and keep there house ad surroundin very clean , and r productive citizen . It doesnt matter what your income status is if you are low life you will rob and steal and have no respect for society . I my self was robbed by a Very nice working person . they came into my house and robbed money from me and my Children and then cleaned out all My Jewelry . nd this was a nice workin person !!!!!

I grew up in the Bronx and moved out here just 3 years ago - dont these kids realize how much BETTER it is out here? Yes, there's low income housing and 'projects' - but why do the mentalities of the individuals have to reflect that ideology? YOURE IN WESTCHESTER! The first thing people say when I say I moved up here they're all like "ooh, no crime, nice houses" I have to tell them about PEEKSKILL. Why do I see these kids WANT to act like thugs when you're not really in that "street" element? I just dont get it. Do they even know what it's like in the REAL hood? I like to think there's some choice in the matter and not some sort of social "hardwiring".

How about focusing on getting these young adults some kind of help. I understand the seriousness of these situations, but what is being done for these young people making bad choices?
C'MON SHON August 3, 2012 at 06:00 pm
Its not the Teachers they really do try. Its the parents, having kids when the are 18, not knowing what they are doing. Walking around dressed like hoodboogers is not setting a good example on their children or others that look up to them.

I live off of dykeman and the block does look awful....one side looks great and the other looks like the south bronx...i understand both of the comments regarding section 8...it may not be the folks living there its the landlords that don't care.
Robbing people with a knife what is next a gun....sexual assault...really $2000 is nothing to bail him out... I am going to get a big dog....but there may be others in my area that begin to arm themselves....just great...

@jo you are right, the old web site was 100% better then this and it was more user friendly unlikeRead More this new one . BRING BACK THE OLD ONE

By the way, in our new system we have an update that includes a community moderation tool—it'sRead More not only Patch editors who can flag comments. What is it? Readers can flag any content they find objectionable on any Patch site at any time. We’ve put the flagging link in more places to make it easier to find and backed it with more sophisticated tools. Our goal is to recognize and reward readers who make our community great. How does it work? You’ll see these words — Flag as Inappropriate — on the top and bottom of Board posts, articles, blogs and notes, and next to every single comment anywhere on the site. To flag something, you simply click those words. What happens when you flag? It alerts us that something might be up with the content. When should you flag? We ask that you use your common sense and a general spirit of openness. You should never flag things that you simply disagree with and certainly not to clarify minor points. We encourage you to comment, post (or even start your own blog) to be heard on those things. You can review the Patch Terms of Use Ashley referred to above.

I'm wondering if a comment made by Veton Sejdiu was deleted because it implies a threat againstRead More people. In his comment, he calls people "morons" and "fools" (nothing new here), but in a threatening way, he dares people to try to take guns away.

don't know why I'm having a problem getting this written............anyway...they are rude,Read More unhygenic and WILL NOT follow any of the condo rules....there's so much more but we are sick of it. There are only two of us that speak up...everyone else is cowering behind closed doors.

Unleashed dogs is getting to be a big problem in Peekskill. I see them routinely now. People areRead More letting their pit bulls out, their poodles, their chihuahuas - all kinds of dogs. Two days a go I watched a lady jogging on the track with her loose dog. The dog wasn't even supposed to be on the track no less loose. Some kid or elderly lady is going to get bit. Loose dogs also end up in more fights with other dogs.
sayitsnotsojack June 19, 2013 at 09:15 am
Sue a sad fact that these days of “political correctness” individuals who exhibit rudeRead More and ignorant behavior are empowered by the rest of us. I know of a similar situation where the individuals will yell four letter words in the public areas with young children there, call others the foulest things, and in this case, they are black and gay so the race/gay card is used constantly. Until people make it known they are not going to tolerate their behavior it will not stop. Have you notified the property owner, complex board, and police, or maybe the board of health?

It seems Patch moves editors every year. Liz was here when I signed up. Then she was shortly movedRead More to Rye and Rasheed took over. He must have been here about a year and then he left when the new format was introduced. Both times patch started cooking and then it got cut down just as new staff got their mojo going. A new editor with a new format seems like starting from scratch again. I know AOL/Patch needs to get some cash flow going quick (from what I've read) but I can't see what they are trying to do exactly by tipping the cart over and over
Wendy Kelly June 17, 2013 at 08:37 am
Agree Joshua just when you have a good thing going with an Editor they move. I can't figure thisRead More site out I was not allowed to post for at least a week thought Mary et al put an hex on me. Hey anyone know where Peter Goodson is??? I miss his posts.

Working Families Party endorsed candidate Mary Foster
Robin Seggs June 14, 2013 at 10:44 am
Working Families Party almost always cross endorses with Democrats. Looks like the choice isRead More getting clearer: One team is Democrat, WFP and Independent and the Catalina Team is Republican, Right-to-life, Conservative. Anyway, I believe Catalina is campaigning as anti-gay rights, so I know how I will be voting.
jo June 14, 2013 at 02:28 pm
and so many in the cast of characters that attend the meetings. believe Mary is a republican atRead More heart.. and here the Left of all left dem groups endorses here..mmmmmmmm just thinking out loud..
