Peekskill Police Arrest 4 for Alleged Highland Avenue Assault

Police arrested Dkqwan Johnson, 23, of Peekskill; Araiya Taylor 19, of New York City; Alexis Brens-Medina, 18, New York City; and Brianna Williams, 19; after they were allegedly observed beating a man on Highland Avenue Sunday.

Peekskill police arrested Dkqwan Johnson, 23, of Peekskill, Araiya Taylor 19, of  New York City , Alexis Brens-Medina,  18,  New York City; and Brianna Williams, 19, of New York City; and charged them third-degree criminal mischief, a felony. Williams was also charged with additional counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing, both misdemeanors.

At about 12:50 p.m., a police officer allegedly saw the four suspects kicking and punching a 30-year-old Peekskill man on the 500 block of Highland Avenue. The officer stopped the fight.

The victim then told police that one of his attackers, Williams, lunged at him with a knife. The victim’s vehicle also sustained three broken windows and a slashed tire, according to police.

Police said they recovered the knife and arrested all four suspects and held them for arraignment. They have since been released to reappear for a future city court date.

These monsters were "released for a future court date?"
Ded Yorick February 27, 2013 at 01:10 PM
Did Dkqwan's mother have something against vowels? Why'd she bother with the 'a' at all? She should have just named him "Dkqwn". How is the judge supposed to pronounce this dude's name? Maybe he'll get a nickname in the joint and make life easier for everyone.
joshua tanner February 27, 2013 at 02:18 PM
Well the kid on Dyckman St robbed people twice in a week with a knife and got $1200 bail (one count alone is 25-35K in other places). Makes sense these people beat a guy up, pull a knife and destroy his car and then get let go. They might as well post "Welcome Gangs" signs on roads leading in because this city is so soft on crime its a scandal

wonderful upstanding citizens, broad daylight how brazen, but of course they are what is the consequence? I am so sick and tired of the crime in Peekskill I really hope this new chief takes it seriously and cracks down on the low life thugs. But I am sure someone here will post about the miserable life the one from Peekskill had and how sorry they are for him/her I have no idea of gender. Alarm and dog the way to go if you live in Peekskill as I do.
John H Donohue February 27, 2013 at 03:02 PM
The police do not set the bail or hand down the sentences. That is the rightful job of the courts so look there . The Chief and the police are charged with the duty to investigate and arrest and after that it is up to the court system..
Willie Bobo February 27, 2013 at 03:12 PM
That's some frightening-looking posse my man Dkqwan is runnin' with. If I saw those goons on Highland Avenue, I'd be haulin' ass over the river in no time flat.
Darlene Simmons February 27, 2013 at 04:49 PM
Has anyone heard of "Innocent until proven guilty?" Young black men are more likely to be arrested and need our support. rather than our unfounded condemnation, including who their parents may be. If you have some personal knowledge, you should bring it to the court, rather than making prejudice statements on the internet, which are against the American System of Justice and supports anti black bigotry!
Patty Villanova February 27, 2013 at 04:57 PM
Anti-black bigotry? Is that what you call putting up the names and photos of the alleged perpetrators? Funny, but I never hear a peep out of anyone if the pictures in the police blotter articles feature white men or women. Could it be that there's a double standard?

Marie February 27, 2013 at 06:11 PM
They were caught in the act by the police...so how are they not guilty??????? Gotta stop pulling the race card, it's lame.
leesther brown February 27, 2013 at 06:45 PM
@Patty lol you're right but be careful telling the "Truth" they might want to send word through the community that they want to beat you up! The above comment is from one of constant speakers up by city hall..holla..I'll point it out...I'm so sick of the excuses for this BS...a lot of this behavior is taught at home..ooops I said "Holla" I'm told that it can be taken as a "Threat" you have to look at the source of the comment...and yes it is a double standard until it affects one of them then it's on....
Society Girl February 27, 2013 at 06:56 PM
Can someone tell me how this is a race thing. They were spotted in broad daylight by a cop. There were 4 beating up on 1 person. They are trash!!! Trash comes in many colors. Get a job and be an asset to society.
RealTimeRufus February 27, 2013 at 07:09 PM
Darlene, I'm hip to what you're sayin but let's look at some truths here. First, only one of the alleged perps is a guy. The others are of the fairer sex (although I'm being generous with one of them). As far as their parents, what parent in his/her right mind would name a kid "Dkqwan"? They did this kid no favors by stamping that on him. It's practically a mark of Cain. Frankly, it's not a surprise he's in trouble. He was doomed as soon as he was given that unfortunate moniker. In fact, the parents should be the ones going to prison for their offense against good taste and normal civilized behavior. Crime us crime. U r caught in the act u r guilty. This thing about the name n it being the parents fault is bs. U can raise your children to the best of your ability, n once that age hits u cannot prevent them from doing what they want. His name had nthg to do with what he was doing. I m positive his mom didn't tell him to do that. People need to grow up, because some of these comments r ridiculous!
RealTimeRufus February 27, 2013 at 10:28 PM
Are you the mother of "Dkqwan"? You seem to have an aversion to vowels, to wit: "nthg". Learn to write the Queen's English before commenting on these boards. Perhaps some of these alleged female perps should enter the "MIss Ethnic Queen Pageant". It would give them something to do with their time beyond assaulting folk on Highland Avenue. It's also good for the self-esteem. http://peekskill.patch.com/events/miss-ethnic-queen-pageant-applications

I wonder if these fine young adults voted for President Obama??? Hope and change in Peekskill! Holy mackerel!
Society Girl February 28, 2013 at 01:02 AM
Darlene.. how can you even think about the "innocent until proven guilty" statement. They were caught in broad daylight. Pretty hard not to say they're guilty. Maybe you should take in this group if you feel they need our support. My support is going to the innocent person who was being beat up. By the way, would our 4 "alleged" attacker like it if they were beat up by 4 people.
Teleman February 28, 2013 at 01:52 AM
She has an awesome starter-stache- hopefully they all go to the lock-up and get treated like the animals they are.
Teleman February 28, 2013 at 01:53 AM
Where do these names come from? Do the parents just make them up out of thin air?
Luci Vale February 28, 2013 at 09:35 PM
The violent criminal problems in Peekskill are out of control!!! I am very glad we now have with us Police Chief Eric Johansen, however he will need more help from our NYS Govenor, our Senator, and Westchester County Executive, Rob Astorino. The Peekskill Common Council, doesn't seem to understand how large, dangerous, and unpredictable the violence, drugs and prostitution is here. If it wasn't for "Homeland Security" notifying the Peekskill Police Department that we have a nest of drug dealers here last week, they would not have been caught and arrested...(and deported). Yes "Fly on the Wall,"Peekskill can also be referred to as the "Little Bronx."
Rusty Still March 01, 2013 at 12:26 PM
I think I saw them cross a road and they don't pay attention to the traffic lights and just walk out into traffic. Perhaps it is a thinly vailed attempt to be sent to a better place. Hopefully someone kicks their Azz until theirs nose bleeds Whats worse in Peekskill? Drugs or violance? Teleman,I thought the stache was a good starter myself.
paula March 03, 2013 at 04:13 PM
The bigotry is not in the article.. it's in the comments.
paula March 03, 2013 at 05:34 PM
9:11 am on Sunday, March 3, 2013 Dear White People, Your bigotry is showing. They were caught committing a crime and arrested. Comments about names, vowels (really? go get a life), someone's mother, the Queen's English (seriously? really? who died and made you boss of comment board? No one has to write the way YOU want to read), and of course, President Obama have absolutely no relevance and are frankly, just ignorant. I'm disgusted at the behavior of our youth, and even more disgusted right now of the behavior of the people on this board. The adults. White adults. Shame on you. Constructive comments welcome, bigotry and hatred, NO. Interesting note, if the 'innocent' guy who got beat up was a methadone clinic patient, drug addict, thief, illegal immigrant - or anyone who looks other than all of you... you would be scathingly derogatory about him/her too! Comment constructively. Leave the bigotry out of it
Patty Villanova March 03, 2013 at 06:41 PM
What about black on black "bigotry"? What I see and hear in the Skills and popular Rap music, the banter between the brothers and sisters, would never be tolerated from whites or any other race; not to mention some of the comments that have appeared on the Patch bashing White People. I guess It's OK to use the N-word, Ho, and every other dirty bit of name calling as long one is a person of color. Can we please stop playing the race card all the time? It really is becoming irrelevant in the City of Peekskill; many don't realize how tolerant and multicultural most people are, of all races, creeds and colors. The diversity of this City is celebrated and cannot be denied.
Society Girl March 03, 2013 at 10:21 PM
My comment did not contain bigotry and yes I am a white woman.
Fed Up March 05, 2013 at 02:38 AM
Im black and honestly, this has nothing to do with race! As people have said, they were caught by a police officer in broad daylight and it was four aganist one! One girl supposedly had a weapon as well! Im sorry but they should all go to jail, I could care less about their skin color! Right is right and wrong is wrong.....black, white or whatever race or skin color! This type of behavior is unacceptable in society.....period!
