Peekskill Mourns Officer

Peekskill is still reeling from the death of Christopher Vazeos, a 23-year veteran of the Peekskill police department, who committed suicide July 11.

"With profound sadness I announce and mourn the passing of longtime City of Peekskill police officer and my longtime friend and client, Chris Vazeos," Mayor Frank Catalina posted on his Facebook page. "If you've been around Peekskill for 23 years or less, you probably had contact with Chris. He was everywhere helping, protecting and saving lives and property. There are no words to soften this blow. Our thoughts and prayers to his loving mother Maria and the rest of his family. Rest in peace my friend."

Vazeos was devoted to the community he grew up in and served, according to a post from the blog Private Officer Breaking News

He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his Welcher Avenue home, according to News 12.
