Officials: Black Bear Spotted in Peekskill

A spokesman for the City of Peekskill released the following statement around 12:25 p.m. Tuesday:

"Peekskill police are in the process of coaxing a nuisance black bear off city streets and into the woods by Depew Park and Blue Mountain," Bob Knight said. "Residents are asked to keep their garbage covered and pet food inside. If you see a bear, do not approach it and do not surround it."

Visit the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's website: for more information about black bears.

Editor's note: This post, initially published at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, initially misidentified Depew Park.
