Eighth Citation for Underage Alcohol Sale at Getty Mart

This is the eighth time a clerk at the Cortlandt convenience store has been cited for selling alcohol to a minor, according to the Westchester County police.

The following was provided by the Westchester County police. It does not indicate a conviction. 

The manager of Cortlandt convenience store Getty Mart was arrested over the weekend and charged with selling a 12-pack of beer to a person less than 21 years of age.

Rajesh Gupta, 47, of Buttonwood Road, Cortlandt Manor, was arrested at his home Saturday by Westchester County Police Officer Rob Kelly.  He was charged with Prohibited Sale of an Alcoholic Beverage and Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 1st Degree, misdemeanors.

He was released on $100 bail and is due in Cortlandt Town Court on July 20.
Kelly and Police Officer Amy Sullivan, who were conducting alcohol compliance checks in Cortlandt on Friday, sent an underage female into the Getty Mart store at 2225 Crompond Road at 12:50 p.m. to attempt to purchase beer. The female selected a 12-pack of beer and handed over her driver's license, which contained a date of birth showing she was less than 21 years old. She was permitted to purchase the beer and left the store.

County police conducted similar compliance checks at 12 other businesses in Cortlandt on Friday.  All other stores refused to sell alcohol to the underage female.

Westchester County Police regularly conduct alcohol compliance checks at local businesses to help deter underage drinking. Friday's incident at Getty Mart marked the occurrence at the Crompond Road location in which county police issued summonses or made an arrest for prohibited sale of alcoholic beverages to underage persons.
