Early Morning Fire Destroys Yorktown Home

The fire was reported at 3:50 a.m. by the homeowner who was able to escape unharmed, Second Assistant Fire Chief Paul Dillon told Patch.

When firefighters arrived at the scene there was heavy fire showing from the front of the house, Dillon said. The main body of the fire was found in the kitchen, but the cause is still under investigation. The fire does not appear to be suspicious, Dillon said. 

"We put a very good stop on the fire," he said. "It didn't get any further than where it was. It was a very involved fire when we got there but we were able to contain or stop it from spreading."

The fire was extinguished in about 30 minutes and firefighters were able to clear the scene at around 7 a.m. There were no reported injuries. 

The Yorktown Heights Fire Department firefighters received mutual aid from Bedford Hills FAST and Buchanan Fire Department. Lake Mohegan and Millwood fire departments were on standby.
