A Peekskill driver hydroplaned, lost control of his car and ran off the road as the car flipped over on Crompond Road and Arlo Lane around 9 p.m. tonight. The young man was wearing his seatbelt and had no injuries, but his blue Corvette was totaled. He escaped out the side of the car and managed to save his guitar despite the massive damage to the vehicle.
“Drive slow,” said George Keesler, Deputy Chief of the Mohegan Fire Department at the scene of the accident. Keesler and state police both said that drivers need to take extra precautions and drive slower in the rain. They also said that the seatbelt may have made a big difference in the driver’s safety.
The driver, who was less than a mile away from his home, was not charged with any violations.
Westbound traffic was diverted onto Arlo Lane and the eastbound lane on Crompond remained open while emergency personnel waited for a tow-truck around 9:30 p.m. The accident happened around 9 p.m. and should be cleared within an hour, officials said.
