Cortlandt Troopers: Drunk Driver Crashes with 3 Kids in the Car
A 30-year-old Putnam Valley man—who had children in the car, police said—is facing felony drunken driving charges after a property damage accident on Oregon Road in Cortlandt.
State troopers from the Cortlandt barracks arrested Keith F. Morris at about 10:40 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20. Morris was behind the wheel of a 1996 Acura TL with three youngsters, ages 3, 4 and 10, in the car. Police did not report any injuries.
Morris had a blood-alcohol level of 0.15-percent, officials said. The legal limit is 0.08.
Police charged the defendant with felony driving while intoxicated for having a DWI conviction in the last 10 years and for violating Leandra's Law. Leandra's Law makes drunken driving with a child passenger a felony.
Morris was arraigned in Cortlandt Justice Court and sent to the Westchester County Jail on $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond bail. He was due back in court this morning.
