Cortlandt Troopers Charge 1 Burglary Suspect; Second Flees

A report of a burglary in progress on Ridge Road in Cortlandt early Tuesday led to the apprehension of one suspect and a search for the second, officials say.

"Responding units were met by some witnesses/bystanders who provided vital assistance, which led to the immediate apprehension of one suspect," State Police said in a statement released Tuesday morning.

Joseph Gagliardi—a 25-year-old man who is reportedly homeless—was arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred at about 3:45 a.m. He's facing a felony charge of second-degree burglary.

A second suspect fled the area, authorities said. Officials established a perimeter. A bloodhound and a K-9 unit from the state police responded, as did a state police helicopter. Uniform patrols and members of the agency's Bureau of Criminal Investigation were also at the scene.

"Interviews in the area provided leads regarding the second suspect and investigators are currently attempting to positively identify the suspect," the statement reads. "Additional information will be released when it is available."
