Members of the professional side of the Peekskill Fire Department took the Lieutenants Promotional Exam last week.
That's a big deal, because the PFD, which is a combined volunteer/paid department, has always had officers from the volunteer side.
The union talked about the development on Facebook.
"In the very near future, 4 of our members will be changing the make up of the City of Peekskill Fire Dept, by being promoted from firefighter to Lt.," said the post from Peekskill Professional Firefighters Local 2343.
Commenter David Walker also wished them all luck. "It's not easy to have a mixed fire department, but it can be done. Change is hard, but change is required in the fire service these days. Good luck to all the members of the PFD, Career and Volunteer."
