Meet the Peekskill Board of Education Candidate: Joseph Urbanowicz

My name is Joseph (Joe) Urbanowicz and I have been married for 38 years to my wife Karen. We are both graduates of Peekskill High School and have 3 children, Elizabeth, Timothy and Danielle all PHS graduates.

I have served for the last 6 years as a member of the Board of Education and prior to that on numerous Peekskill BOE committees, including Long Rang Planning committee, Facilities committee, Reorganization committee, Athletic committee, Facilities Director search committee and others.

Why I want to be on the BOE: My 30 years in public school administration has given me the experience of knowing what it takes to provide students and staff with the resources that will give them the opportunity to be successful combined with being as efficient as we can be with the tax dollars we are entrusted with. I believe I have done that for the last 6 years as a member of the Board of Ed and I am seeking re-election to continue my service to the students and tax payers in the district.

I have dedicated my life to helping the youth in Peekskill find their way on the journey of life. It will be a major part of my life until the day I die. I want my actions, how I spend my time, and in all that I do to reflect that passion. I believe my experience as a school administrator for the last 30 years will allow me to work with the Board and staff to find creative ways to provide the resources to help increase their opportunities to be successful. I have look forward to continuing to foster an atmosphere of creative thinking and continuous improvement. Good organizations are always looking to do what they do better by continually accessing/evaluating their operation. Being on the Board of education in Peekskill is another opportunity to serve the community I was raised in and love being a part of. I want to be able to do all that I can to help this and future generations not only be successful, but proud that they graduated from Peekskill high school, and to have our community look on our schools as an institution that helped all of our children reach their full potential and made us a stronger nation as a result.
