Local Wal-Mart Donates $1,000 in Gift Cards to Woodside Teachers

Twenty teachers at Woodside Elementary School were recently presented with $50 gift cards from the Cortlandt Town Center’s Wal-Mart thanks to the company’s Teacher Rewards program. Through the program, one local kindergarten through eighth grade public school is selected and provided with the cards to help pay for classroom supplies.

Woodside was selected to receive the cards after Rich Sullivan, the President of the school’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) approached Wal-Mart representative Gina Conklin about the program. Winners were chosen in a random drawing by Woodside’s Principal, Staci Woodley. The cards were presented at a small ceremony at Wal-Mart, where a company representative thanked the teachers in attendance for their hard work and dedication.

“It was so wonderful of Wal-Mart to give our teachers gift cards,” Woodly said.  “So often our teachers must spend their own money to buy materials to enhance their lessons. This generous donation from Wal-Mart shows their commitment to strengthening our community connection with each other. A few teachers even donated their gift cards back to our Parent Teacher Organization.  I would like to thank Richard Sullivan, our PTO President for reaching out to Wal-Mart on behalf of the students and teachers at Woodside.”
