Vivian Cyndi McKenzie - Small business owner and Business Improvement District Board Member, Appointed to Peekskill Common Council Monday Night

Peekskill, NY - Vivian Cyndi McKenzie was appointed, at the Common Council Meeting last Monday evening, to the Council seat vacated by Don Bennett.  She was sworn in by the City Clerk and immediately took her seat to applause from a room filled with friends and family.  Many citizens, including pastors from her church and fellow small business owners in downtown Peekskill rose to thank her for stepping into the breach and to congratulate the Common Council for making such a fine choice.

“I am very excited to have Vivian join the council.” Said Deputy Mayor Drew Claxton, “She understands what it means to be a small business owner in this economy and brings a fresh new perspective on economic development, growing and investing in our downtown, and building our community.”

During the meeting, Ms. McKenzie moved her first resolution for a vote, a street closure so that Assumption Church can hold a stickball tournament that will raise money to help autistic children and their families.
