dealt with this Eastern Division in the American League. This week, we are looking at the East in the Senior Circuit.
With Major League Baseball switching the rules this season, more importance has been placed on actually winning the division. The National League East has as much fire power as anyone else and it wouldn’t surprise anyone to see that division get three teams into the playoffs.
The Mets looked good on opening day, but the team has gone through a difficult offseason as it prematurely lost one of its team’s when Jose Reyes left to join a division rival, and watched the owners pay off millions as a result of the Madoff Ponzi Scheme.
Needless to say, it looks like New York is ready to take its place in the division’s cellar while Atlanta, Miami, Philadelphia and even Washington fight for the playoffs.
Atlanta may want to come out strong after a historic collapse last season, while Philadelphia still has enough starting pitching to carry it through any race. Washington’s young guns may finally be ready for center stage and the newly-named Miami Marlins are looking to make some noise with the new manager, new shortstop and new ballpark.
The playoffs may still be months away, but it is never to early to start speculating who will win the National League East.
