Memorial Service Set for Cortlandt Fire Victim

A memorial service will be held for James E. Phillip, 59, of Cortlandt Manor, in Erie County Wednesday. Phillips was killed after a fire ignited inside his home Friday morning.

A memorial service has been scheduled for James E. Phillips, the man killed in Friday’s house fire in Cortlandt Manor, at the Lombardo Funeral Home in Orchard Park, Erie County.

The service for the 59-year-old Cortlandt Manor resident is scheduled to take place from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

State police said Phillips, who used to reside in West Seneca, Erie County, died from smoke inhalation after a fire ignited inside his home on 215 Sprout Brook Rd. in Cortlandt Manor. Officials believe the fire was caused by a cigarette.

State police investigators believe Phillips had lived at the home for more than a decade.

Phillips is predeceased by his parents, Fred and Orlean Phillips; and his son, Jimmy.

He is survived by his sisters, Sharon Fromm and Linda Kwiatkowski; and his children Christine, Tracey, Julie, Aileen, Olivia and William.
