Josephine C. Acevedo, 89, a life-long Verplanck/Peekskill resident, passed away on July 20, 2013.
Born on August 24th in Verplanck, the daughter of the late Paul & Carmela (Mattaroza) Morabito. She was a graduate of Hendrick Hudson H.S. in 1941.
Jay worked as a telephone operator for 18 yrs. at NY Telephone in Peekskill, until retiring in 1988. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis Acevedo, in 1973. She was a member of the Church of the Assumption, and the Peekskill Senior Citizens and was part of the NY Telephone Co. Pioneers. Jay loved to cook, garden, and socialize.
Josephine is survived by her 2 sons: Michael & Louis Acevedo; and her 2 granddaughters: Tina & Marci, and 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her 2 sisters: Rose Gallo and Elvira Laug. She was predeceased by her son Anthony Acevedo and her 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 23rd from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the E.O. Curry Funeral Home, Peekskill. A Funeral Mass will be offered 10am, Wednesday, July 24th at the Assumption Church, followed by interment in the Assumption Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor.
