Hagop “Jack” Ekizian, well known around the Peekskill area as “The Carpet Man” and owner of Ekizian’s House of Carpets, Inc. in Peekskill for over 60 years, passed away on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011 at the age of 85.
Jack was an active, long-time member of the Peekskill Lions Club, and served as deacon in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Peekskill for over 45 years. He was the first member recognized by the diocese as an ordained, vocational deacon.
He is survived by his children, James Ekizian of Putnam Valley, Richard Ekizian of New Windsor, Lorraine Mark of Croton Falls, Andrea Ekizian Babon of Croton Falls, Ashley Ekizian of Mohegan Lake, and stepdaughter Stephanie Rosalina of Mohegan. He is also survived by his wife, Fareeda Ekizian, and several grandchildren, Brooke Brookens of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jake Ekizian of Yonkers, Alyce Mark of Washingtonville, Natalie Babon of Croton Falls, Kevin Yerdon of Oneonta, and Kimberly Wooden also of Oneonta. In addition, he is survived by a host of loving nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.
He is predeceased by daughters, Gale Kaplan of Brewster and Alana Bertch of Oneonta.
A wake will be held at the E.O. Curry Funeral Home, 313 N. James Street, Peekskill, New York 914-737-0083 on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. Hours are from 7 – 9 p.m.
A funeral will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Peekskill, New York.
